College Hospitality and Culinary Arts/Molina Family Scholarship

Selection of GHRA Hospitality and Culinary Arts Scholarship is based on many factors with special emphasis on the question; essay segment which deals with the student’s philosophy, goals and academic achievements, as well as motivation to serve and succeed in this industry. The need for assistance will be considered after all other considerations.

The recipient will be notified by June 1, 2019, and will be invited to attend the GHRA President Dinner on June 20, 2019 location is still to be determine where the scholarship award will be presented by the GHRA. Two complimentary tickets will be given to you, one for you and your guest.

The GHRA Board of Directors established their culinary arts scholarship programs to promote careers in the restaurant and culinary arts industry. The goals of this award are to recognize students who are pursuing education to fulfill their desire to work in our industry and who represent the future of the greater Houston Restaurant industry. GHRA Family and Professional Development Grant are also available to help support our members who may need assistance in funding their education. In 2005 the GHRA Board of Directors chose to broaden the eligibility to include those members who may have children or employees who need funding assistance. Those interested must have volunteered at one or more of the following GHRA events: Industry Summit, Fall Cookout, Gala, Culinary Competition and/or Golf Tournament may earn extra points on the scholarship.

The Student Must:
   • The student must be a senior in High School or attend college/university.
   • Demonstrate the ability to succeed with college level work.
   • The student must be enrolled in any degreed foodservice or hospitality program or be an employee or family member of a TRA member
   • School transcripts must accompany the application.
   • Demonstrate leadership ability, and a good general job history. The student should show participation in either school/civic organization and/or have a  broad range of goals.
   • The student must be a resident of Texas.
   • The scholarship is awarded one year at a time.
   • The recipients may reapply for the scholarship every year; however, satisfactory progress must be shown to be considered.
      A. The student must have a minimum “C” average overall.
      B. The student must have a minimum “B’ average in his/her major.

Students may earn extra points on the scholarship rubric by:
    • If student work for a TRA member establishment or if the student parent works for or is a current TRA member
    • If students have volunteered at one or more of the following GHRA events
